uThing::VOC¶
uThing::VOC is a USB dongle for monitoring indoor air quality. It is built around the Bosch BME680 sensor and a powerful STM32 microcontroller.
It's designed for easy integration into custom applications, gateways, or for quick proof-of-concept projects.
Key Features¶
- Primary Sensor: Bosch BME680 MEMS sensor.
- Core Processor: STMicroelectronics ARM Cortex-M4.
- Onboard Intelligence: Uses Bosch's proprietary BSEC algorithms to process raw sensor data into meaningful metrics.
- Simple Connectivity: Plugs into any USB host (Linux, macOS, Windows, Android) and works as a standard Virtual COM Port (VCP) with no drivers needed.
- Flexible Output: Provides data in JSON (default), CSV, or a human-readable format.
Measured Data Points¶
The device outputs the following environmental data:
- Indoor Air Quality (IAQ): An index from 0-500.
- IAQ Accuracy: A score from 0-3 indicating the sensor's current calibration status.
- Equivalent CO₂ (eCO₂): An estimate of CO₂ levels in parts-per-million (ppm).
- Equivalent Breath VOC: An estimate of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from human breath.
- Ambient Temperature: In degrees Celsius (°C).
- Relative Humidity: In percent (%RH).
- Atmospheric Pressure: In hectopascals (hPa).
- Gas Sensor Resistance: The raw resistance of the gas sensor in Ohms (Ω).
